About Us

Upper Owlbury House is located at Bishop's Castle in Shropshire which is centrally placed for at least 14 railway attractions making it an ideal base for visiting several railways in one visit

It is the home of Christine and Tony George. Who have over twenty years experience as hoteliers and are both confirmed rail enthusiasts.

Enjoy farmhouse bed and breakfast amidst magnificent scenery designated "An area of outstanding natural beauty".

Our home offers three en-suite non-smoking guest bedrooms with tea and coffee making facilities and colour televisions. Food is prepared by Christine from fresh local produce. We have our own vegetable patch and free-range chickens. Evening meals by arrangement. There is ample off-road parking

 

After a busy day out guests can enjoy our model railway, listen to music or watch a film from our large selection. We also have a large collection of railway archive films for those interested. Long summer nights can be enjoyed in the extensive grounds, where, weather permitting barbeques can be arranged.

Bishop's Castle is a delightful ancient market town with many of the buildings dating from the 17th century. The town boasts two museums (The Railway Museum & The House on Crutches Museum), many fascinating independent shops, numerous pubs and two breweries. There are places to eat whether you want a threee course meal or just a coffee and cake.

There are many places of outstanding beauty in the area including The Long Mynd, the Stiperstones, Offa's Dyke and the Kerry Ridgeway. The tourist office in Bishoip's Castle has a number of walking leaflets. Nearby are several interesting towns including Welshpool, Shrewsbury & Ludlow and the delightful villages of Clun & Montgomery.
